Nickers and Whinnies – a blog by Pippi

I've got another puzzler for you, so put your thinking caps on. Which country has the most horses? It boasts more than 10 million of us wonderful creatures. I'll give you a hint – it's one of the following: China, Germany, Japan, or the United States.

E-mail me with your guesses.

Story was first with the correct answer to the question of which breed of horse is the fastest (see my previous post).

She must think that since she beat Dicey when they were running up the hill in the mare pasture, she's the fastest horse around. I have to agree that she moved pretty darn quick when she was in the middle of an Arabian sandwich at drill-team practice. Stormy and Ebby were squeezing in on either side of her and she did not like it, no she didn't! She spun better than I can and I've been practicing for months. I guess an Arab sandwich with quarter horse filling isn't on the menu out here.

Anyway, here's Story's e-mail:

"Faster than a speeding bullet, stronger than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound....It's the American Quarter Horse! (Or possibly Superman. I may be slightly confused, or perhaps prejudicial, but I know I'm close).

I've been doing some research about horses. Do you know what the fastest horse breed is? Got any guesses? This breed was clocked at nearly 55 mph. Check back – I'll reveal the answer soon! Or e-mail me if you want to guess.

Maybe I shouldn't be so excited about my new bridle. Check out this video of Stacy Westfall riding without a bridle. Without a saddle, too.  For once I'm speechless.

"I feel pretty, oh, so pretty! I feel pretty and witty and bright. And I pity any mare who isn't me tonight!"

Can you tell that I'm dancing in my stall? I got a new bridle and it's absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I just love it. It's so shiny. Finally my human has understood how special I really am and is putting me in tack that reflects that. Human told everyone that she was "pimping her ride." I don't know what that means and I'm not
quite sure I like it, but I'll put up with it if I can wear that bridle again.

Last night at drill team, I saw Bok checking me out. Yep, Bok – the prince.  I think he was impressed. I wish Bravo had been ridden so he could have seen my magnificience, but maybe Bok will tell him about it. Maybe Bok and Bravo will have a battle over me. Wouldn't that be exciting!

Story's so silly – she bought herself a computer off of eBay for Christmas, so now she sends me e-mails instead of talking to me across the barn aisle. Anyway, she sent me this e-mail after I said I was depressed and wanted to hibernate.

"Don't forget about our drill team practice. I'm not especially exited about it because I just don't like most of the geldings, but you, Dicey, Bravo, and Ebby are OK.

I wish my human would make up her mind what speed to go – speed up, then slow down. I stepped on myself making a pivot turn because I was confused whether to walk or trot!

I haven't loped in over two weeks, though. Maybe my human has forgot about it and I won't have to worry about that "collection" stuff. It's too much work anyway. She did put out lots of hay for us girls this morning, though, so I was happy about that.

See ya around the barn!

I think I'm depressed. It's cold, it's snowy, there's no grass to eat. It's just more of the same day after day; nothing changes.

I've gotten so bad that I actually stuck my head out for my human to put my halter on.  I WANTED to be ridden. I'm not sure that's ever happened. At least it was something different. Human hasn't been around much. She even missed my 13th birthday. At least Story and Bravo helped me celebrate.

And I heard the groundhog saw his shadow. Six more weeks of winter. Six more weeks of this! I don't know if I can take it.

There's nothing else to do, so I guess I'll go have a little snack and take a nap. Wish I was a bear so I could hibernate.
