It's A Pleasure Horseback Riding Lesson Program

Horse and rider

Kay Suddeth, A.R.I.A. Certified Instructor, and Bok

At It's A Pleasure, our goal is to help novice riders find the path to being "one" with the horse, to have fun, and to experience the partnership that's possible with these magnificient, powerful animals. Beginners will learn about all aspects of the horse world in a safe, family-type atmosphere. And intermediate and advanced riders will increase their skills under the caring and professional tutelage of Kay Suddeth, certified instructor of the American Riding Instructors Association.

We offer riding lessons all year round in:

  • Western Pleasure
  • Recreational
  • Hunt Seat

Program highlights:

  • Year-round horseback riding
  • Indoor and outdoor riding arenas
  • Learn how to ride, plus how to groom and care
    for horses and tack
  • Lesson horses available
  • Adult and children classes
  • Located 6 miles north of Geneseo, Illinois
    at Belezaire Farm
Our students learn about basic horsecare, as
well as learning how to ride correctly. Our program
is designed to allow students to progress at their
own rate and to have a great time while doing it!
Since safety is one of our main concerns, students
are never forced to ride above their skill level,
and helmet use is required for children and
encouraged for the adult riders in the program.
We also have a very active Youth Association, which
provides educational and fun projects for children
from 6th through 12th grades. We also award each
of our graduating seniors a $500 scholarship to help
towards their college educations.

Lessons are scheduled from 5 - 7 p.m. Monday through Friday during the school year. In the summertime, we start earlier in the afternoon. We've definitely got a spot for you in one of our lessons. Why don't you stop out and see for yourself what we're about? We're located just off of Route 6 and Osco Road between Geneseo and the Quad Cities.  Or contact us with any questions.

 Kay Suddeth

Kay's love for horses started at a young age. Her father helped nurture her affinity for the animal by giving Kay her first horse when she was just four years old. Then at the ripe old age of 13, Kay started training horses and the rest is history!

Growing up on a livestock and grain farm in northeastern Illinois, Kay was a 4-H leader and member, then went to Aurora University where she completed her B.A. in social and behavioral sciences. She was also quite an athelete. Kay started on her college basketball, volleyball, softball, and tennis teams and was selected the MVP on her basketball team and chosen athlete of the year in 1975.

Kay's been teaching horseback riding for over 20 years. During that time, she studied with Cherry Hill, renowned horse trainer and award-winner author. She also spent several years working with Quarter-Horse trainers in various Western-Pleasure barns. Kay's other accomplishments include:

  • ARIA member – tested and certified by peers as a riding instructor
  • Experience as a mounted drill team participant and coach
  • American Quarter Horse Association member
  • Youth Association board president
  • Sponsor of Quad City Arabian Horse Club open and youth shows
  • Former member of the Quad City All Breed Horse Association
  • Competed and won numerous awards and ribbons in Western Pleasure, halter, showmanship, trail class, hunt-seat equitation, and speed events
  • Several years of veterinary tech experience
  • Loves to trail ride and camp with horses on her own time
  • Avid volleyball player
